CHOLESTEROL AND THE BRAIN
All cell walls are made up of cholesterol.
There is good cholesterol and there is bad cholesterol. We want as much good cholesterol as possible.
Cholesterol acts as the cement that keeps the bricks of your cell walls stable.
But you want the cholesterol to be fresh and new as much as possible so that the cell walls are flexible and permeable. This allows nutrients to come in easily.
If cholesterol is old, from not being replaced or too many trans fats (fake fats) in our diets, the cell walls get stiff.
Lipase as we talked about in a previous post is a fat enzyme that will cleave the old cholesterol out of the cell wall.
Phosphatidylcholine is one of the main supplements I encourage my brain health patients to take. It is one of my standards for brain health.
Why? Phosphatidylcholine comes in and takes the old cholesterol out of the tissue (after your lipase enzyme has pulled it out of cell walls). It carries old cholesterol to liver to be made into bile.
Bile further helps with fat digestion. Your body acts as a recycling center:)
Then when you ingest good oils in the diet, those fats are made into new cholesterol to replace the old.
The cell walls are healthier and your brain absorbs more oxygen and nutrients. More attention, better focus, and less brain fog is the result.
Phosphatidylcholine is your natural brain cleaner!
