IS YOUR MULTIVITAMIN ENOUGH?
Hey Everyone,
I was asked this week, “I am taking a multivitamin every day, why do I still feel so sluggish?”
Wanted to drop a quick line and remind you that with all the stress, coffee, sugar, caffeine, and refined carbohydrates going around, your multivitamin may not be enough. The suggested daily dosages of vitamins and minerals must vary from person to person because a few determining factors:
- Age
- Body type
- Genetic predisposition
- Disease conditions and medications
- Absorption and metabolism (leaky gut)
I don’t mean to sound negative or make you doubt your multivitamin, but sometimes higher amounts of specific vitamins or minerals may need to be added to get your immune system, digestion, and heart working more efficiently. According to studies, even with daily intake of multivitamins, most Americans are deficient in zinc, magnesium, and selenium. I suggest taking a multimineral with your multivitamin. Make sure those three are in the ingredients.
At our office, we like to suggest lab tests that test the intracellular amounts of micronutrients in the cell (spectracell), not just in the blood. I’ve seen patients so deficient that they needed 3-4 times the normal amount of vitamins and minerals because all the stress and detrimental factors we all face in daily life.
If you are taking a multivitamin regularly and still feel tired, fatigued, or just overall drained, you need to look into two things:
- Change the multivitamin/mineral
- Get your cells checked
Please let me know if you have questions in the comment section below!
Be well,
Dr. Motley
