Probiotics and Kids: BFF’s

A daily question I get from parents, “what type of probiotic should I give my children?”

Products are important but more important is the positive effects on your child.

They should not experience:

  • Bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Belching or gas

Children are all unique and have genes that require certain good bacteria. At times a one size fits all approach is tough to recommend for every child.

If your little one experiences any of the negative symptoms after taking the probiotic, then switch brands and keep seeking till you find one that creates:

  1. Firm bowel movements
  2. Energy as the weeks go by
  3. Less indigestion or any type of digestive issue
  4. Less respiratory infection
  5. Decrease in any skin irritation

Give probiotics at night before bed or right in the morning on empty stomach if possible. It allows the probiotc to pass into the small intestine without danger of being broken down by stomach acid at those times of day.

You can always open up the probiotc capsule and put it into a non-dairy yogurt, low sugar apple sauce, or in their bottle.
