THE WINTER BLUES
The Winter Blues
Too many clouds and dreary days…does it bring you down? Known as SAD-seasonal affective disorder.
How Do We Avoid the Winter Blues? Let’s look at the symptoms:
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Decreased libido
- Anxiety
During spring and summer we have the ability to be outside in the sun for longer periods of time.
The sun and actually helps our bodies metabolize vitamin D internally.
Most individuals who suffer from this, have issues with their vitamin D receptors, the VDR. That is why there can be mixed results according to research about taking vitamin D during winter months.
A genetic test that shows a genetic mutation in the VDR gen will give you a reason why you have SAD.
The body requires vitamin D, with the help of vitamin A, K, and E, to produce and regulate serotonin and dopamine.
These neurotransmitters are responsible for keeping us COM, sleeping, and increased happy mood’s.
If your body cannot absorb vitamin D properly, you have a hard time producing these brain chemicals, then you become sad and depressed and maybe even anxious.
SAD is a representation of a deeper conditioned within your VDR genes.
If you have a problem with SAD and can’t shake it, the simplest steps are to:
- Try a vitamin D, with K, A, and E 2000-3000 IU a day. Research good brands that have a combination of these vitamins in one capsule if possible.
- A light box to help stimulate vitamin D production in the body can help
If you want to go further, you can get a genetic test to see if you have a VDR gene mutation. I have seen this condition be solved up with the right vitamin D supplementation.
Don’t lose hope! It can be helped!
